Austin-Healey 100 Coupe

No, you’re not seeing things. That’s actually one of my illustrations—OAC1—but drawn in reverse at the request of David Matthews for a project he’s working on.

Here it’s depicted as it might have been seen after just departing Jensen and well before it met with several unusual modifications as a brake and engine development car for Donald Healey Motor Co. In 1955 it was fitted with a Morris 6 cylinder engine by the DHM Co. in anticipation of the “C” series Austin engine slotted to be fit in the 100/6, along with Jaguar Dunlop disc brakes all round and a Lockheed Servo.

The solid Healey Blue is sure to spark some debate among those most familiar with it being shown. In the 70s the then owner decided to remove the Coupe’ top  which in turn ended up in Australia, later repatriated by David Matthews in the mid 80’s, the next owner had the Coupe’ refitted and the final owner had the car painted Jaguar Indigo Blue and Silver top. That said, I’m told the colors shown here are the same as listed on the car’s Heritage Certificate—solid Healey Blue with dark navy interior.

While I am rather partial to the red coupe, this is example in Healey Blue is really outstanding.
