The ‘Visible’ Car

You have to be of a certain age (you know who you are) to remember the Renwal Invisible Man, Invisible Woman, and Invisible V8 models. Back in the days before all of the electronic gadgetry we now have they were a way for youngsters to learn about the human body or, more to the point, how an engine works. The V8 model wasn’t a static piece but a completely working see-through engine model complete with spark plugs that lit up when the cylinders fired. Well, fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and…

…just when I thought I’d heard of everything in terms of how my artwork can be used, along comes Randy Irving from MI5 Print and Digital up in Toronto with a whole new idea—a complete wrap on a Triumph TR6 (shades of Renwal’s Invisible V8). I have to admit, I’d had some fleeting thoughts about a similar notion but Randy is the first guy to actually do the deed.

To make it happen, I had to create a left side, bonnet, and boot views…completing the illusion of being able to see through the TR6. Randy says response to his “invisible” TR6 has been fabulous and he’ll be taking his newly skinned Triumph to various shows around the area.

I don’t know about you folks, but I think it’s pretty darn cool looking. A stop action video of the actual installation is in the works but, in the meantime, you can find solace in these stills Randy sent me of the completed car.
